Eccle Riggs is a proper golf course sitting just outside Dalton-in-Furness in Cumbria - the sort of place where locals know every dip and bunker by heart. It's an 18-hole layout that doesn't pretend to be championship standard, but that's rather the point. The course winds through decent parkland with enough character to keep you engaged without requiring scratch golfer skills to enjoy yourself.

Golfers will get the most from a visit here, obviously. If you're mid-week and the course isn't rammed, you can take your time and actually see what's happening with your shots rather than playing in a queue. Green fees aren't extortionate, though you'll want to check their website for current rates and member rules if you're hoping for a casual round.

Allow three to four hours for a full game, less if you're just hacking about for fun. It's the kind of course that works well as a break during a holiday rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at Harbour Lights Campsite or High Haume Glamping - both within a short drive - this makes an easy morning or afternoon out. The terrain is reasonably walkable, though you might want a trolley depending on how the course is playing that day.

Non-golfers won't find much here, to be honest. It's genuinely just a golf course. But if you're staying in the area and fancy eighteen holes without the faffery of a resort club, it does the job well enough.
