Easternmost point of Scotland

The cliffs at Dunnet Head feel like the edge of the known world. Stand here on the northeast tip of Aberdeenshire and you're looking at the last solid ground before the North Sea gets serious - this is officially as far east as Scotland gets. The rocky headland juts out with genuine drama, waves hammering the base while the wind usually has other ideas about your hat.

You can drive almost to the point itself, which means even those who'd rather not hike miles can pay respects. The views stretch back along the Aberdeenshire coast and out toward the sea stacks and bird cliffs. On clear days it's genuinely worth the detour from Peterhead, just five minutes away. On grey days - which is most days - it's bleak and proper atmospheric, the sort of place that makes you understand why people historically saw the sea as both livelihood and threat.

It won't eat up your afternoon. An hour is enough to walk around, soak in the geography, take your photos. Bring wind-resistant clothing regardless of what the forecast promises. Bird watchers get proper excited here, particularly in spring and summer when the cliffs host nesting seabirds.
