East Towthorpe Hollow Pond is a tranquil spot for a short walk rather than a destination in itself - think twenty minutes wandering the perimeter rather than a half-day outing.

The water sits in a gentle hollow, surrounded by scrubby woodland and open grassland. It's the sort of place where you might actually spot waterfowl without crowds pushing you out of the way. Walkers get the most from it, particularly those staying at nearby Wagtail Country Park who fancy stretching their legs between the caravan pitches. Kids will manage it without complaint, but they won't be clamouring to go back.

There's something refreshingly unpretentious about the place. No visitor centre, no gift shop, no admission charge as far as anyone can tell. You just turn up and walk. The access seems straightforward enough, though it's worth checking locally in Grantham before you go, as the paths aren't especially well-signposted.

It works best as an add-on to a park holiday rather than a standalone visit. If you're based at Wagtail Country Park, it's genuinely useful for burning off energy on a quiet afternoon. The surrounding countryside is decent for rambling, and the pond itself has a calming, understated quality that grows on you. Don't expect anything spectacular.
