Eassie Church

The church sits alone on a gentle slope a few miles south of Blairgowrie, surrounded by farmland and the kind of quiet that makes you realise how far you've driven from anywhere. Eassie Church is modest - a simple stone building with genuine medieval bones, though it's been worked on and restored over the centuries. What draws people here, really, is the carved Pictish stone embedded in the wall outside, a proper piece of ancient history just sitting there weathered by Scottish rain.

You don't spend hours here - fifteen minutes to half an hour is honest - but it's the sort of place that feels special precisely because it's not trying. The churchyard is peaceful, the views across the Strathmore valley stretch out nicely, and there's something quite moving about standing where people have worshipped for over a thousand years. History types will appreciate the Pictish carving; walkers passing through the area might swing by without it eating much time.

Access is straightforward - it's on a minor road and appears to be freely accessible, though you should treat it with respect as an active (or semi-active) place of worship. The nearest facilities are back in Blairgowrie itself, a small market town about twenty minutes' drive away. If you're camping at Nethercraig Holiday Park just outside town, this makes an easy local loop combined with a walk through the surrounding countryside. Don't expect car park infrastructure or visitor facilities - just a genuine, uncrowded piece of Scotland.
