Dylan's Hill

A steep climb above Ilkley takes you to what's essentially a bare hillside with Iron Age earthworks - and honestly, you need to know what you're looking for or it won't amount to much. Dylan's Hill is an archaeological site rather than a visitor attraction in the traditional sense. The ramparts and ditches that defined an ancient settlement are still visible if you squint the right way, but they're subtle enough that most casual walkers will miss them entirely.

It's genuinely worth the effort only if you're genuinely interested in Iron Age settlement patterns or you're already up on the moors around Ilkley doing the longer walks. The views across Wharfedale make the climb worthwhile anyway - that part's proper rewarding. Allow an hour round trip from town if you're making a dedicated visit, though most people will absorb it as part of a broader ramble rather than an isolated stop.

History enthusiasts will get something from it. Families with young kids will probably find it underwhelming - there's no interpretation, no facilities, just hillside and archaeology that requires some knowledge to appreciate. Winter's actually the better time to visit because vegetation dies back and the earthworks show more clearly.

If you're based at Clarion Lodge Campsite or any of the parks dotted around the area, this makes sense as a morning walk combined with the wider Ilkley Moor landscape. It's not a destination in itself, but it's a solid addition to a proper hiking day out.
