Dur Hill

Standing at just 46 metres above sea level, Dur Hill might not sound like much of a peak, but this gentle rise near Christchurch offers surprisingly good views across the New Forest heathland. The modest climb through gorse and bracken takes about twenty minutes from the nearest car park, making it perfect for families with younger children who fancy a proper walk without the drama.

From the top, you'll get a cracking view south towards the Solent and north across the forest canopy. It's particularly lovely in late summer when the heather's in bloom, though the exposed position means it can be properly windy on blustery days. The hill sits right on the edge of the New Forest National Park, so you're likely to spot ponies grazing nearby.

Walkers and dog owners get the most from this spot - it's free, always open, and connects to several longer forest trails if you fancy extending your ramble.
