Dunge Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Crewe, Dunge Wood is the sort of place you'd stumble upon by accident and then keep coming back to. It's all ancient oak and beech, with paths that wind deeper than you'd expect given how close it is to town. The forest floor is thick with ferns and fallen branches, and come spring the bluebells are decent - nothing Instagram-worthy, but genuinely pleasant.

Walkers will find enough here for a solid hour or two, depending on how lost you're willing to get. The paths are a bit muddy after rain, so proper boots are worth it. Kids enjoy it fine for a mooch about, though there's no playground or visitor facilities to speak of, so you're really just here for the trees and fresh air.

It's free to wander and open whenever - typical forest rules apply. Time it right and you'll have the place to yourself on a weekday morning.
