Duck Pond

There's a modest stretch of water just outside Northwich that locals have been feeding ducks at for years, and it's exactly what it sounds like - a proper little pond where waterfowl gather in numbers. Nothing fancy, no admission charge, no visitor centre. You rock up, chuck some bread (though the ducks prefer proper grain these days), and watch them squabble for it. Kids under eight love it for about forty minutes, which is generous. The surrounding area is flat and low-key, with enough of a walk around the perimeter to stretch your legs without making it a full expedition. If you're staying at Lakeside Caravan Park or Thornley Leisure just down the road, it's a handy fifteen-minute filler on a wet afternoon rather than a destination in itself. Woodlands Park, Cheshire is also close by if you want something with more teeth. The pond works best in spring and early summer when the ducklings appear - winter sees the water turn a bit grey and the appeal fades. Honestly, it's the sort of place that's good to know about if you're camped locally and need to burn ten minutes before lunch, but don't go out of your way. Decent enough, just don't expect drama.
