Dragons Hole

A small cave entrance tucked into woodland near Perth, Dragons Hole is the kind of spot that rewards curiosity more than it demands serious caving gear. The opening is genuinely modest - you could walk right past it if you weren't looking - but that's rather the point. It's atmospheric in the way only Scottish caves manage to be: damp, a touch eerie, and swallowed by old trees.

What you actually get is a short explore into the cave system itself. It's not Fingal's Cave or anything, but for families with kids aged eight upwards, or anyone with a passing interest in geology, it's a perfectly decent twenty minutes off the beaten track. The walk in through the woodland is pleasant enough, though muddy after rain - which is always in Perthshire.

Historically, the cave has pulled in visitors for centuries, though quite why it's called Dragons Hole remains delightfully vague. Local legend, probably, which is fine by us. No visitor facilities to speak of, so come prepared with decent footwear and a torch if you're venturing deep.

Free to visit and open year-round (weather permitting). It slots nicely into a broader Perthshire trip - Perth itself has parks like Scone Camping and Caravanning Club Site nearby if you're basing yourself there. Don't expect drama, but do expect a genuinely quiet corner of Tayside where you'll likely have the place to yourself.
