Doctor's Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured country estate, Doctor's Wood sits just outside Faversham and delivers exactly what it promises - trees, paths, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came to Kent in the first place. The wood itself is small enough to explore without getting lost, but thick enough to feel like you've actually gone somewhere. There's no gift shop, no visitor centre, no faffing about - just forest floor, oak and beech, and the occasional spot of light filtering through the canopy.

It's ideal for families after a straightforward woodland ramble, particularly ones with younger kids who'd find a two-hour loop manageable without complaint. Walkers passing through the area will appreciate the lack of crowds and the genuine sense of escape it offers. History enthusiasts might be curious about the name itself, though you'll need to do your own digging - the wood isn't exactly famous for dramatic backstories.

Go in autumn when the ground is soft underfoot and the light gets genuinely atmospheric. Spring works too if you're after bluebells. The walk takes about 90 minutes depending on your pace and how often you stop to listen for birds.
