Diglis Basin

This narrow stretch of water sits where the Worcester and Birmingham Canal meets the River Severn, right in the heart of Worcester. It's actually not a natural lake at all, but a working canal basin that's been serving narrowboats since the 1700s. The real draw here is watching the constant parade of brightly painted narrowboats navigating the lock system, especially during summer when canal traffic peaks.

Families will find plenty to entertain the kids - counting different boat designs becomes oddly addictive, and there's usually a friendly boat owner willing to chat about life on the water. Dog walkers make good use of the towpath, which connects to longer canal walks if you fancy stretching your legs properly. The area around the basin has a few decent pubs too, making it a handy pit stop.

Expect to spend about an hour here unless you get properly absorbed watching the lock operations. Free to wander around, though parking in Worcester city centre can be a bit of a faff. Best visited when the weather's decent since there's not much shelter.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Worcester Glamping or Ketch Caravan Park, it makes for an easy morning out before exploring Worcester's cathedral or shopping areas. The basin works well as part of a broader day in the city rather than a destination in itself.
