Deer Abbey

The ruins of Deer Abbey sit quietly in the Aberdeenshire countryside near Mintlaw, and they're genuinely worth hunting out if you're staying in the area. What remains today are fragments of a medieval monastery founded in the 6th century - crumbling stone walls, sections of the abbey church, and enough atmosphere to make the visit worthwhile even though you're essentially walking around weathered foundations.
