Days Park

The coastal path near Swanage opens up onto Days Park, a proper nature reserve that catches most visitors by surprise. It's not the sort of place you'd stumble across by accident - you have to know it's there and be willing to walk a bit to reach it. The reserve itself is a mix of scrubland and grassland sloping down towards the cliffs, with views across the bay that stretch for miles on a clear day.

What makes it worth the effort is the wildlife. You'll see butterflies, particularly in summer, and if you're lucky, various bird species moving through. The walking paths are straightforward enough - nothing too demanding - though the terrain can be boggy after rain. Most people spend 45 minutes to an hour here, which feels about right before you're ready to head back towards Swanage proper.

Historically-minded types might appreciate the geological side of things; the cliffs tell a story if you know how to read them. But this isn't a destination for sitting down with an information board for hours. It's more about the walk itself and grabbing some fresh air with a decent view attached.

Staying at Ulwell Holiday Park or Swanage Bay View means you're close enough to pop over without much fuss. Both are rated highly and within walking distance if you fancy combining a park holiday with some proper coastal exploration. Days Park works best as part of a wider Swanage day out rather than a standalone trip.
