Dalby Hill

Dalby Hill isn't going to take your breath away with altitude - we're talking about 200 feet of Lincolnshire limestone, not Alpine drama. But that's rather the point. From the top, the flat expanse of the Fens stretches out in every direction, which sounds dull until you're actually standing there watching the light change across endless fields and distant horizons. It's a proper perspective shift in a county that doesn't do vertical.

The walk up takes minutes, making it ideal for families with younger kids or anyone who wants a gentle ramble without committing to serious hiking. The views reward you without requiring fitness levels. On clear days you can see across to the coast near Skegness, which is only a stone's throw away.

This works well as a leg-stretcher during a caravan holiday at The Layby Lincs or Lincolnshire Glamping - both are within five miles, so it's a quick detour rather than a full day trip. Cottage-waters caravan park is nearby too if you're already in the area. Bring proper footwear if it's been wet; the path gets muddy and a bit slippery, which catches people out.

Go early morning when the light's soft and the fields are quieter. An hour here suits most people fine - climb up, take in the view, head back down. Worth the detour if you're already staying locally, but don't drive across Lincolnshire just for this one. Pair it with other attractions in the region and it becomes part of a proper day out.
