Cruach na Caol-bheinn

Getting to the top of Cruach na Caol-bheinn takes proper effort - it's a steep, unforgiving climb from near Tarbert that rewards you with views across Loch Fyne and deep into Argyll's mountain country. The peak itself isn't dramatic or distinctive, but that's rather the point. There's no summit cairn, no crowds, just you and the landscape stretching for miles.

Walkers will find this genuinely worthwhile, though it's not a casual stroll. You're looking at two to three hours round trip depending on fitness and the exact route you take - there are a few ways up, some more direct than others. The paths can be boggy and poorly marked, so proper boots and a map are non-negotiable. In poor visibility, this becomes sketchy territory.

It's the sort of walk that appeals to people who actually like walking rather than people who like saying they've walked somewhere. Kids might struggle with the ascent unless they're keen hillwalkers already. Solo walkers tend to get more from this than groups, if only because the conversation stops and you notice the landscape.

There's no entry fee or opening hours to worry about - this is open country. Best tackled in decent weather when you can see something from the top. Winter brings its own challenges and isn't recommended unless you know what you're doing.
