About Crow Hill
This one suits walkers more than anything else. Families with younger kids might find it a bit of a slog, though teenagers who don't mind a steady incline will be fine. History buffs won't find much to chew on here - it's purely about the landscape and the walk itself. The area around Dunfermline has enough heritage spots to keep you busy on a rainy day, but Crow Hill is fair-weather territory.
If you're staying at Green Oak Nature Retreat just down the road, this makes a logical morning or afternoon outing. It's close enough that you won't waste half your day driving. Pettycur Bay is further out, but still within reasonable distance if you're planning a walking day. Allow two to three hours total including the walk and a sit-down at the top with a flask.
Best visited in spring or early summer when the weather's more likely to cooperate and you can actually see something from the top. Winter walks are possible but grey, and autumn can be muddy underfoot. There's no café at the summit, so bring your own provisions.
