Croppersgorse Plantation

Walk into Croppersgorse Plantation and you're immediately swallowed by proper woodland - the kind where the canopy does all the talking. It's a forest block near Market Rasen that locals actually use rather than just photograph, which tells you something about its genuine appeal.

There's nothing flashy here. No visitor centre, no themed trails with laminated signs. Just trees, paths that wind through the plantation, and the kind of quiet you don't get in managed country parks. You'll spot Scots pine and other conifers doing what they've done for decades. Walkers tend to get the most from it - the network of tracks works well for a proper stomp, and you can easily lose an hour or two without planning anything formal. Families with kids who actually like walking rather than amusement will do fine, though there's no playground nonsense to break things up.

Free access, naturally. No gates, no car park charges, no membership required. Parking is roadside casual. Bring decent boots if it's been wet - the ground holds moisture under all that tree cover. Off-season visits in autumn or early spring feel less crowded than summer weekends.

It slots nicely alongside a wider Lincolnshire Wolds break. You're close to Lindsey Trail Touring Park and Into the Wild Glamping if you're staying put, both excellent spots. The plantation works as a morning activity before heading to the Wolds themselves, or a proper walk day when you want forest rather than open landscape. Nothing revolutionary, but that's rather the point.
