Creag Thulaichean

The walk up Creag Thulaichean is properly doable - it's not going to destroy you, but it rewards the effort with proper views across the Loch Lomond area. You're looking at a decent climb from near Glasgow, but nothing that demands mountaineering experience or special kit beyond decent boots.

The peak itself sits high enough to give you that satisfying sense of achievement without requiring a full day's graft. Clear days show off the loch and surrounding hills beautifully; misty days can be moody and dramatic instead. Either way, the air clears your head fast.

Walkers after a solid few hours' exertion will get the most from this. Families with older kids (10 plus) can manage it fine, though younger ones might find the climb tedious. The path is reasonably well-trodden but can get boggy, so don't underestimate the terrain. Allow three to four hours for the full round trip depending on fitness.

If you're staying at either Milarrochy Bay or Inverbeg - both excellent spots with cracking reviews - Creag Thulaichean makes a natural morning or afternoon outing. Parking near the trailhead is straightforward. The nearest proper town is Glasgow, which means you've got good facilities either side of your walk.

It's the sort of peak that doesn't get rammed with hikers, which is exactly why it's worth the drive. Go midweek if you can and you'll have the hill largely to yourself.
