Creag nan Speireag

The walk up Creag nan Speireag isn't long, but it's punchy. Starting near Lochearnhead, you're looking at a proper hill rather than a munro - the sort of climb that takes maybe ninety minutes to the top and doesn't require a week's worth of kit. The views across Loch Earn are the real reason you're here, spreading out below you like someone's spilled blue paint across the valley floor. On a clear day you'll see for miles into the Trossachs, which makes it feel like proper mountain country even though the peak itself is modest.

This is walker territory, full stop. Families with older kids manage it fine, but anyone expecting a gentle ramble will find the gradient a bit steep for what's advertised. The scramble near the top is short and straightforward - nothing that requires ropes, just a bit of hand work. Bring proper boots though; it gets boggy on the approach and loose underfoot in places.

You won't find opening hours or admission fees because there aren't any - it's open land, free to wander. Mid-morning is best if you want to avoid the afternoon cloud that tends to roll in. If you're staying at Balquhidder Braes Holiday Park just down the road, this makes a cracking half-day outing that doesn't eat into your afternoon. The summit's a good spot for a packed lunch, assuming the Scottish weather cooperates.
