Cranmoor

Cranmoor is a proper woodland walk just outside Brewood - the kind of place you head to when you want to stretch your legs without faffing about on a motorway for hours. The forest is thick with old oaks and beech trees, the sort that make you remember why people bang on about England's countryside. Footpaths wind through, some boggy after rain, others firm enough even in winter.

It's best suited to walkers rather than casual strollers. You're looking at a good hour minimum to properly explore without feeling rushed, though you could do a shorter loop if time's tight. The place won't overwhelm you - it's intimate rather than grand - but that's rather the appeal. Families with older kids who don't need constant entertainment will do fine here. Younger ones might get bored once they've found their first interesting stick.

There's no visitor centre or cafe, so bring water and sensible shoes. The paths can be muddy, especially after wet weather. Autumn's probably best - the light filters through the canopy beautifully and you're less likely to wade through puddles.

If you're based at Worfe Camping or Oakland Holiday Park nearby, Cranmoor makes a solid half-day escape from the caravan. It won't be the highlight of your trip, but it's the sort of honest forest walk that clears your head properly. No pretence, no gift shop, just trees and quiet.
