Coven Playing Fields

The fields at Coven are proper Staffordshire countryside - flat, open, and surprisingly wild for how close they are to Brewood. It's a nature reserve rather than somewhere you'd pop in for a quick look; you're here for the birdwatching, the walking, and the chance to see what's left of the West Midlands before the towns took over.

Walkers and birdwatchers will get the most from this. The terrain is gentle enough for families with younger kids, though there's not much in the way of facilities or marked routes - you're essentially wandering through fields watching what you can spot. Spring and autumn are the best times if migrating birds are your thing. Summer can feel a bit sparse.

It's free to access, and you can spend anywhere from an hour to a half-day here depending on whether you're serious about birding or just after a decent walk. There are no visitor facilities to speak of, so come prepared with water and maybe binoculars.
