Cotesbach Church

The church sits quietly on the edge of Cotesbach village, just a few miles south of Lutterworth, and it's one of those places that rewards you simply for turning up. All Saints is a proper medieval church - we're talking 12th century onwards - with that particular charm of rural Leicestershire buildings that have just been left to get on with things for centuries without fuss.

Inside, the real draw is the wall paintings. Medieval murals have survived here in decent condition, which is rarer than you'd think. There's also some decent monumental brasses if you're into that sort of thing. The chancel's got good proportions and the whole space feels genuinely peaceful rather than museum-like.

History enthusiasts will spend a good hour here; casual visitors might manage twenty minutes. The building's usually open during daylight, though it's worth checking locally.

Families with young kids won't get masses out of it unless they're genuinely interested in medieval architecture. But if you're the type who enjoys unlocking old churches and reading the stories in the stones, this delivers without pretence. No gift shop, no interpretive boards, just a church that's been doing its job for nine hundred years.
