Cosdon Hill Multiple Stone Rows

You won't find coaches here. Cosdon Hill, straddling the border between Devon and Cornwall on Dartmoor, holds three Bronze Age stone rows that most visitors to the moor completely miss. The longest stretches for over 800 metres across moorland that's honestly a bit bleak in a compelling way - all gorse and granite, with weather that changes every twenty minutes.

The rows themselves are modest by prehistoric standards. You're looking at small stones roughly aligned in parallel lines, not the dramatic monuments you might expect. But that's precisely the appeal. Standing among them, you get a genuine sense of why Neolithic and Bronze Age people arranged them this way, without the interpretive boards and car parks diluting the experience.

The walk from the nearest access points takes about thirty minutes across open moorland. Bring proper boots, a map, and realistic expectations about weather. This isn't something kids will find thrilling after the first five minutes, frankly. It's better suited to walkers interested in archaeology and those who appreciate wild, windswept landscapes for their own sake.
