Corsac Fox

Edinburgh Zoo's Corsac Fox enclosure is where you'll find these small, sandy-coloured foxes from Central Asia going about their day - and they're absolutely mesmerising to watch. They're quick, curious creatures with oversized ears that seem comically too big for their heads, and if you time your visit right, you might catch feeding time when they're at their most active.

The enclosure itself is decent enough, though it's tucked away in the zoo rather than being a standalone attraction. You're looking at needing a full zoo admission ticket to see them, which isn't cheap, but if you're already planning a day out with kids in Edinburgh, they'll spend a solid half hour here alone. The animals are usually more animated in cooler months and earlier in the day before visitors pile in.

Truth be told, the Corsac Fox won't be the highlight of your trip unless you're a proper fox enthusiast - the big cats and primates pull more crowds. But if you're staying at Linwater Caravan Park near Newbridge, it's only a 20-minute drive into the city, making it an easy half-day excursion that'll keep younger ones entertained. Adults interested in animal behaviour will find them genuinely compelling.

Best approach: arrive when the zoo opens at 10am, head straight there before the crowds build, then move on to the rest of the park. Allow 30-45 minutes if you're not rushing.
