Coronation Gardens

A strip of woodland and open space running alongside the River Tamar near Launceston, Coronation Gardens is the sort of place locals know and tourists miss. There's a riverside path that's easy enough for most fitness levels, with benches dotted about if you want to stop and actually look at the water rather than just walk past it. The trees are dense enough that it feels removed from the road noise, and in spring the bluebells are genuinely worth planning a visit around.

It's not a destination in itself, to be honest. But if you're staying at The Secret Garden Glamping just down the road and have a free afternoon, it's a solid 45-minute walk that beats sitting in your pod. Families with younger kids will manage the path fine; dog walkers absolutely love it. The reserve isn't vast, so manage your expectations accordingly - you're not signing up for some vast wilderness experience here.

The best bit is how quiet it stays even in summer. Pick a weekday if you can, early morning especially, and you'll have the place nearly to yourself. Bring a picnic and find one of the riverside spots. It costs nothing to wander about, which helps when you're weighing up yet another activity during a rainy Cornish week. The walk takes what you give it - you can rush it in thirty minutes or stretch it to a couple of hours if you're keen on bird spotting or just sitting still.
