Corfe Castle Viewpoint

The view from this spot near Wareham stops you dead. You're looking at Corfe Castle perched on its ridge - a proper dramatic silhouette, especially in late afternoon when the light catches the stone just right. It's the kind of sight that makes you understand why the Normans chose this exact hill, and why the English Civil War bothered fighting over it hard enough to blow most of it up.

You don't need tickets or anything. Just park sensibly and walk up a bit. Twenty minutes maximum to get a good vantage point, though frankly you'll linger longer because the view's that good. The castle ruin itself sits there like a broken crown - it's medieval walls and towers rising from the landscape in a way you simply don't get from the village below. Walkers and photographers absolutely live here. Parents with young kids will get five decent minutes before the novelty wears off unless you make it part of something bigger.

Timing matters. Clear days are obvious winners, but I'd argue for visiting on an overcast afternoon when the drama gets even more theatrical. Avoid midday summer crowds if you want anything resembling peace.
