College Wood

The woodland just outside Faversham is thick, proper thick - the kind of place where you lose the sound of the road within about thirty seconds of leaving the car. College Wood spreads across decent acreage, and the paths wind through beech and oak without much fanfare or interpretation boards to interrupt your walk.

It's a straightforward woodland ramble rather than a destination attraction. You're here for the quiet, the smell of damp soil, and if you time it right in autumn, the floor becomes this deep carpet of copper leaves. The canopy does proper work in summer too - genuinely cool when everywhere else is roasting.

Walkers will find it worthwhile; it's the sort of place you can knock out a solid hour or ninety minutes without feeling rushed. Families with young kids will get maybe forty minutes of genuine engagement before someone starts asking "are we nearly done?" The paths are manageable but it's not a manicured park - bring decent shoes if there's been rain.

Free access and no facilities to speak of, so plan accordingly. It works brilliantly as part of a larger ramble around the area, or as a morning stretch if you're based at Painters Farm Camping Site just down the road. Nothing spectacular, but that's rather the point. Sometimes a wood is just a wood, and that's enough.
