Coalport China Museum

The old Coalport factory sits right on the Severn, and what strikes you first is how the industrial landscape hasn't been sanitised or overdone. You're walking through an actual working pottery site, not some theme park version of one. The museum tells the story of Coalport China, which made proper high-end porcelain from the 1790s onwards - the kind of stuff that ended up on aristocratic tables.

Inside, you'll find kiln rooms, decorating workshops, and thousands of pieces from the factory's archives. Pottery enthusiasts will spend hours here; kids might manage 45 minutes before the novelty wears thin, unless they're genuinely into ceramics or industrial heritage. There are demonstrations some days, which helps break up the static displays.

The setting along the river is the real draw. You can wander the grounds, peer into the old bottle kilns, and get a proper sense of what industrial Shropshire actually looked like. It's free entry, which feels generous given the quality of what's on show.
