Cnoc na h-Eireige

The walk up Cnoc na h-Eireige rewards you with a proper Highland panorama - moorland stretching all the way down to Loch Fyne, with the hills of Cowal rolling across the horizon. It's not a peak that'll take your breath away with drama, but that's partly the point. The climb from Tarbert is straightforward enough, maybe two hours up and back, and you'll rarely share the path with crowds.

This is walker country, full stop. If you're after Instagram drama, you'll be disappointed. But if you want to understand what the Argyll landscape actually feels like - boggy underfoot, wind-buffeted, genuinely quiet - you'll find it here. The views across Loch Fyne toward Dunoon and beyond are the real draw, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the bigger peaks in the distance.

Allow three hours total from Tarbert if you're moving at a reasonable pace. The terrain's mixed - decent track to start, then rougher moorland - so proper boots aren't optional. Go in the morning if you can; the light's better and you'll beat the wind that tends to pick up by afternoon.

If you're based at Tarbert Holiday Park - just five or six miles away - this makes a genuine day walk without needing to travel far. Pair it with the town itself for supplies and a pub afterwards. It's the kind of walk that makes you feel like you've properly been somewhere, not just ticked a box.
