Clifden Parc

The cliffs around Clifden are the real draw here - proper dramatic stuff that makes you understand why people settle in this corner of Cornwall. The reserve itself is a working landscape, not some pristine wilderness cordoned off behind rope, which means you'll share it with farmers and their grazing animals. That's actually what keeps it interesting.

Walking the clifftop paths gives you views that stretch for miles on decent weather days. The coastal path is well-trodden but never feels rammed, and the grassland inland supports a decent mix of seabirds and the occasional buzzard. Spring's best if you want wildflowers; winter when the Atlantic batters the rocks below.

It's free to access - no gates, no visitor centre, just park sensibly and get out there. Allow two to three hours for a proper wander, though you can do a quick forty-minute loop if you're pressed. Families with older kids handle it fine; it's not a playground though, so restless toddlers might struggle.

Staying at Henry's Camp Site, just four miles inland, makes logical sense for a coastal holiday. You get the sea access without fighting the car park queues of the touristier spots, and the clifftop walks are genuinely worth your time. Skip the shops - come for the weather-beaten coastline and the space to breathe.
