Cleethorpes Golf Club

The club sits right on the seafront at Cleethorpes, which already tells you something about the setting. It's a links-style course that's been going since 1887, and you can walk it without needing to be a member if you book a round as a visitor - though you'll want to ring ahead to check availability and get current green fees sorted.

The course itself is fairly straightforward, nothing that will humiliate you completely, but the wind off the North Sea can make things trickier than the scorecard suggests. The views across the Humber are decent enough, and there's a proper seaside feel to the back nine. It's the sort of place where you might see kite surfers in the distance while you're lining up a putt.

If you're staying at Haven Cleethorpes Beach Holiday Park just down the road, this is a genuinely convenient option for a morning round. It won't take all day - expect three to four hours for most groups. Golfers will obviously get the most from it; non-golfers should probably give this a miss. The clubhouse is functional rather than fancy, though there's a bar if you want a drink after.

Timing-wise, avoid weekends if you can, and check the weather forecast because that wind can get properly brutal. Summer is when the course looks its best, though spring and autumn are less crowded. It's a solid, unpretentious links course that works well as part of a seaside break.
