Clay Pigeon Raceway sits just outside Dorchester and is basically a go-kart track done properly - not the fairground stuff you find at every seaside town. You're racing against the clock on timed sessions, not bumping around a kiddie track, which makes a real difference.

It's brilliant for anyone who fancies themselves behind a wheel, from teenagers looking to prove a point to adults remembering their younger days. Families get the most out of it when the kids are old enough to take it seriously - there's nothing worse than a five-year-old who can barely reach the pedals grinding the whole thing to a halt. Most people spend two to three hours here max, including the briefing and a race or two.

Pair it with a walk around Dorchester's market square afterwards and you've got a solid day sorted. Not a reason to visit Dorset on its own, but a proper addition to a park-based holiday if you've got go-kart enthusiasts in the group.
