Clarksland Coppice

Walk into Clarksland Coppice and you're immediately surrounded by proper woodland - tall trees, dappled light filtering through, the kind of place where you actually hear birdsong instead of traffic. It's a working coppice woodland near Henley-in-Arden, which means it's been managed for centuries in that traditional way: cutting back to encourage new growth, creating that lovely mix of different tree ages and light levels.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, which is part of its appeal. You're just in the woods, on footpaths that wind through the trees. It's not dramatic - no waterfalls or viewpoints - but that's rather the point. Walkers get the most from this place: it's a solid hour's exploration through quiet woodland, good for clearing your head. Kids will be fine for a stretch, though they might tire if they're after something with more bells and whistles.

Go in spring when the bluebells are out, or autumn when the light turns golden. Summer's busier but still pleasant. There's no charge and no set hours that I can find - it's the sort of place you just turn up to.
