Christchurch Gardens, aka Top Park

It's a proper nature reserve on the edge of Warwick, the kind of place where you can actually breathe - all woodland paths, open meadows, and enough quiet to hear yourself think. The gardens themselves are more wild than formal, which is exactly the point. You're walking through genuine habitat here, not manicured borders.

It works brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Hilltop Hideaways and Harbury Fields Farm Caravan Park are both within easy reach - and need somewhere to burn off energy without heading into town. Kids do well here because there's room to roam, proper trails rather than the roped-off nonsense you get elsewhere, and the whole thing feels like actual exploration. Birdwatchers come for a reason; the reserve punches above its weight for woodland species.

The beauty of Christchurch Gardens is that it doesn't demand hours of your time. An hour's walk does it, though you could easily stretch to two if you're the lingering type. It's free access, which means you can pop back whenever the mood takes. The main thing to know: go early if you can. By mid-afternoon it fills up with dog walkers and school groups, which rather spoils the wildlife-spotting potential.

Warwick itself is worth your time too, but if you're after green space without tourist crowds, this delivers. No gift shop, no café - just the reserve, as reserves should be.
