Christ the King R C Church

The first thing that strikes you about Christ the King is its sheer scale - this Art Deco church rises unexpectedly from the Cheshire landscape with a confidence that feels almost defiant. Built in the 1930s, it's a proper statement piece, all clean lines and geometric precision rather than the Gothic drama you might expect from a Catholic church.

Inside, the space is surprisingly light and modern for its age. The interior design has that distinct Art Deco feel - nothing fussy, nothing ornate in the traditional sense. If you're interested in twentieth-century architecture or religious buildings that break the mould, it's worth the short drive from Chester. The church is still active, so do check service times before turning up.

This isn't a place to spend half a day, mind you. You're looking at thirty minutes to an hour to properly appreciate what's on offer. History buffs and architecture enthusiasts will find it genuinely interesting; families with young kids might find it a bit quiet unless you're combining it with other activities in Chester itself.
