Christ Church, Eaton

The stone church sits quietly on the edge of Eaton village, just outside Congleton, the sort of place you'd miss if you weren't specifically looking for it. Christ Church is a proper Victorian-era build with that solid, no-nonsense architecture the period does well - red sandstone, peaked roof, the works. Inside, it's got the usual ecclesiastical setup: pews, stained glass that catches the light properly on a clear day, and enough peace and quiet to actually hear yourself think.

This isn't a major tourist draw, and that's rather the point. If you're into church architecture or local history, it's worth poking your head inside. The churchyard's pleasant enough for a wander, with gravestones dating back generations - tells you something about who lived and died in this corner of Cheshire. But you're not talking about a two-hour visit here. Twenty minutes, maybe thirty if you're thorough.

For families based at one of the nearby camping spots - Avona Escapes is just 2.6 miles away - this could be a quiet stop-off between bigger activities. Combine it with a walk around Eaton village itself or use it as a break point when exploring the wider Congleton area. Yellowstone camping is less than five miles down the road if you're staying that direction.

Access appears to be free, though opening hours aren't widely advertised online, so turning up on a weekday morning is your safest bet. Don't expect visitor facilities. This is a working village church, not a heritage attraction.
