Chit Rocks

You'll find Chit Rocks just along the Devon coast near Budleigh Salterton, a formation that's far less famous than it deserves to be. The rocks themselves are a striking rust-red cluster that juts out from the beach, carved into dramatic shapes by centuries of wave action. They're properly photogenic, especially when the light hits them in the late afternoon.

Walkers get the most from this spot. The coastal path approach is straightforward enough, and the rocks make for a good reason to stop and catch your breath mid-ramble. Kids will enjoy scrambling around the base at low tide, though you'll want to keep an eye on them - the rocks are slippery and the sea doesn't wait. It's not a massive undertaking; budget an hour or so if you're making it a proper detour, less if you're just passing through.

The real appeal is how tucked away it feels compared to the busier stretches of the Devon coast. You won't be queuing or competing for photos.
