Centurion Tank

There's a full-size Centurion tank sitting in the middle of Lancashire countryside near Little Hoole Moss Houses, and it stops you dead in your tracks. This isn't some museum piece behind velvet ropes - it's a genuine Cold War-era British main battle tank planted in the landscape like a monument to a bygone military era. You can walk right up to it, circle it, and appreciate the sheer scale and engineering of the thing. The turret, the gun barrel, the tracked treads - all still impressively intact.

It appeals most to military history enthusiasts and anyone with even a passing interest in post-war engineering. Kids tend to love it too, though five minutes of photos might be the limit unless they're properly into tanks. The real value here is as a curiosity stop rather than a destination in itself - the sort of thing you'd divert for if passing through Lancashire on the way to somewhere else.

Access appears to be free and available anytime, though the site doesn't have formal opening hours or facilities. There's no visitor centre or cafe, so treat it as a quick photo opportunity rather than something requiring an hour of your day. If you're based at Smithills View Campsite or Brylea Caravan Park - both excellent rated sites - the Centurion makes for an unusual detour on a local drive. It's the sort of quirky landmark that breaks up a park-based holiday nicely, though I wouldn't plan a trip specifically around it.
