Cefn Rhondda

The walk up Cefn Rhondda rewards you with one of those rare views that justifies every step of the climb. It's a proper peak walk from Port Talbot - nothing too technical, but the ascent is real enough that you'll feel you've earned the summit.

Once you're up there, the valley opens out below you. On a clear day you can trace the Rhondda Valley stretching away, industrial heritage mixing with green hillsides. Walkers get the most from this one. It's not a casual stroll, so families with very young kids might find the push a bit much, but older children who enjoy proper walking will love it. The route is straightforward enough to follow, and there's something satisfying about reaching a defined summit rather than just wandering a hillside.

Allow two to three hours for the round trip depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top. There's nothing to pay - it's free access. Bring a decent map or use offline navigation as the peak can get misty, and do check the weather before heading out.
