Castle Point

The walk out to Castle Point from Aberystwyth is honestly the main event here. You're heading south along the coast path, and the cliffs rise properly above you - not dramatic, but solid and commanding. The point itself juts out into Cardigan Bay, and on a clear day you get proper views across the water towards Cardigan and further down the coast.

It's a straightforward coastal walk, maybe forty minutes from the town centre depending on your pace. The path is well-trodden and manageable for families with older kids, though younger ones might struggle with the distance. There's no castle anymore, mind you - just the name lingering from fortifications long gone. What remains is a decent vantage point for watching the sea and, if you're lucky, spotting seabirds working the cliff face.

Walkers will find this worth the effort. History buffs less so, unless you're the type who enjoys standing somewhere historically significant even if there's nothing much left to look at. The real draw is the coastal scenery and the walk itself rather than any ruins or monuments.

Spring and summer are best - winter storms can make the path treacherous. No facilities out here, so bring water and pack something for lunch. Free to visit, obviously, being a stretch of coastline.
