Carr Lane Strip

A slim strip of woodland that cuts through the Lancashire countryside between Croston and the surrounding farmland, Carr Lane offers a proper walk without the fuss of larger forest sites. It's the sort of place locals know well - mixed deciduous trees, a decent path running through, and enough space to stretch your legs for an hour or so without feeling hemmed in.

The woodland itself is unremarkable in the best way: no visitor centre, no facilities, just trees and birdsong. You're looking at native species - oak, ash, and alder mostly - which means it's decent for spotting woodland birds if you're into that sort of thing. The path is straightforward and well-trodden, making it manageable for families with young kids, though don't expect dramatic scenery or Instagram moments. It's functional green space, the kind of place you'd bring the dog or clear your head before heading back to Croston for lunch.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Royal Umpire is closest at just over a mile away - this works as a quick morning walk rather than a destination in itself. Leisure Lakes and Four Seasons Glamping are further out, so less convenient. Allow 45 minutes to an hour for a leisurely wander through. Free access, as far as anyone can tell, and no particular season matters much, though spring brings the usual woodland flowers if you're bothered about that.

Honestly? It's a nice filler activity between bigger park attractions rather than something to plan a trip around.
