A functional community library in Caldicot, just a few miles inland from Chepstow, where you can actually get things done rather than just browse Instagram-worthy backdrops. The Hub handles the usual library duties - books, computers, reading spaces - but it's genuinely useful if you're staying nearby and need to grab a novel, check emails, or escape a rainy afternoon.

Locals use it properly, which means it feels lived-in rather than sterile. You'll find the standard fiction and non-fiction stock, plus newspapers and magazines. The computer terminals work if you need them, and staff know their stuff without being overbearing about it.

Really it's a practical stop rather than a destination in itself. If you're based at Penhein Glamping - which sits just 3.6 miles away and is genuinely excellent - you might pop in on a wet day or when you've finished a book and fancy a swap. Families with kids will appreciate having the option, especially during school holidays when the Welsh weather inevitably turns grim.

Open Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm, Friday 9am to 4pm, and Saturday mornings 10am to 1pm. Sunday's a no-show. Free entry as far as anyone can tell, though borrowing books likely follows standard library rules. Give yourself 30 minutes maximum unless you're genuinely after something specific.
