Cadsonbury Wood

A proper woodland walk near Callington that actually justifies leaving the car. Cadsonbury Wood isn't one of those managed forests with signs every ten metres - it's the real deal, with actual trails winding through decent-sized trees and enough space to feel like you've genuinely escaped. The ground's usually soft underfoot, which is either lovely or annoying depending on how waterlogged it's been. You're looking at a couple of hours maximum for a decent circuit, though you can potter about as long as you like. It's the sort of place where kids will either love hunting for fallen branches and building dens or get bored within fifteen minutes - depends entirely on yours.

This works well as a half-morning jaunt if you're based at Sunnyside Eco Glamping or Lydcott Glamping nearby. Both are within striking distance, so you could knock it out before lunch without any hassle. The wood itself is free and there's no gate nonsense, just pull in and walk. Bring proper boots though - I've seen people in trainers regret it after rain. Go early if you want solitude, especially at weekends when the families descend. Nothing fancy here, but if you just want a straightforward woods walk without tourist infrastructure, it delivers. The trees alone are worth the trip for anyone after a bit of genuine countryside between glamping sessions.
