The ruins of Byres Farm sit quietly in the Aberdeenshire landscape, a reminder of how farming life has transformed in the Highlands. Walkers pass through here more than tourists deliberately seek it out, and that's fair enough. The surrounding countryside is proper walking country, rolling and open, and Greencraig Pods, Caravan & Camping sits just five miles off, making it a handy spot to base yourself if you're exploring this corner of Aberdeenshire.

Go if you're interested in rural archaeology or simply like wandering old Scottish farmland. Don't go expecting anything reconstructed or visitor-friendly.
