Buttercross

The Buttercross stands in the heart of Skegness, a squat stone structure that's easy to miss if you're not looking for it. It's a medieval market cross, the sort of thing that defined English market towns for centuries - a covered shelter where butter and other goods were once sold, hence the name. You'll find it's a proper working piece of history rather than a museum piece, and the stonework tells you straight away it's been standing there since around the 14th century.

It's brief, honestly. A quick stop rather than a destination in itself - maybe ten minutes if you're actually reading the information board. But it's exactly the kind of thing that makes sense when you're already in Skegness wandering the town centre. History buffs will appreciate the medieval market context; everyone else will probably take a photo and move on.

Free to look at, as these things tend to be. Best visited during daylight hours obviously, and there's no real queue or timing issue.

Pair it with a proper wander around the seafront or the Georgian terraces if you want to make a half-day of it. The Buttercross itself won't take long, but it anchors the story of what Skegness actually is beneath all the seaside-town bustle.
