Burn Park

The Burn runs through this modest nature reserve on Aberdeenshire's outskirts, and it's the sort of place that rewards a quiet morning walk rather than a rushed afternoon visit. Westhill's just down the road, so you could couple this with a morning here before heading to one of the nearby caravan parks like Hillhead - that spot's a solid base with decent facilities. Free to wander, though facilities are basic if they exist at all. Go early if you want solitude; weekends bring the local dog walkers.

Truth is, it's not a destination in itself. But if you're staying in the area with a family or you're a keen walker wanting to find lesser-known ground, it's worth the detour. The reserve won't take your breath away, but it's proper, quiet Scottish countryside without the crowds.
