Bullocks Carr

Bullocks Carr is a proper Norfolk woodland, the sort of place that rewards a wander if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks around Great Yarmouth. It's woodland rather than formal gardens or manicured trails - expect mixed trees, open glades, and the kind of quiet you don't often find this close to a seaside town.

The forest itself is small enough to explore in an hour or so, which makes it ideal if you've got restless kids or just fancy stretching your legs between beach days. There's something genuinely peaceful about it, even in school holidays when everywhere else is rammed. Locals use it properly - dog walkers, joggers, the occasional photographer hunting for light through the trees.

Walkers will get the most from it, though families with younger children might find it a bit limited for a full afternoon unless they're the type to build dens and hunt for wildlife. Bring binoculars if you're into birdwatching - Norfolk's excellent for that and woodlands like this are decent for spotting common woodland species.

It's free to access, which is the main draw if you're staying at Haven Wild Duck or The Wildings Elms Meadow just down the road. The real value isn't in grand vistas or attractions - it's in the fact that it breaks up a holiday centred on the Yarmouth seafront and gives you genuine greenery without a drive. Go mid-morning for the best light and fewest people.
