The sandstone building on Marine Road isn't what most people picture when they think of a library - it's got character, the sort of place where you can actually imagine settling in for an afternoon. Buckie Library serves the working fishing town properly, with the usual suspects: books, computers, a decent reference section. It's free, naturally, and the staff are genuine - not the hushed, intimidating sort you sometimes get.

It's worth a stop if you're spending time in Buckie itself, particularly on a rainy day or if you've got kids who need a break from the caravan. The local history section is solid if you're interested in the town's fishing heritage, and there's usually a noticeboard crammed with information about what's happening locally. Don't expect to lose three hours here though - an hour's plenty for a proper browse.

The real appeal is as part of a wider Buckie visit, especially if you're based at Greencraig Pods just up the road. Pair it with a walk along the seafront or a visit to the fishing heritage attractions nearby, and you've got a decent wet-weather afternoon sorted. The Moray coast has enough going on that a library visit slots in without feeling like you're making do.
