Broom Copse

Broom Copse is a woodland patch near Wallingford that feels properly removed from the usual Oxfordshire tourist trail. It's the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think - dense trees, dappled light filtering through, and paths that meander without much fanfare.

What you're doing here is walking. There's no visitor centre or café, no interpretive boards telling you what the trees are. You just wander through the copse, spot bluebells if you time it right in spring, and let the forest do its thing. It's genuinely quiet, which counts for something in the South East.

This works best for walkers who want a proper woodland experience without driving three hours to the Cotswolds. Families with restless kids under seven might find it a bit thin for keeping them occupied - there's no play equipment or obvious "attractions" beyond the trees themselves. But if your children actually enjoy walking and spotting wildlife, they'll get something from it.

Allow an hour minimum. You could stretch it to two if you're slow-pacing it. No facilities that I'm aware of, so sort yourself in Wallingford first.

If you're staying at Rolling Fields Glamping just down the road, this is an obvious pairing - close enough for a morning wander before heading elsewhere, far enough away that it doesn't feel like you're just lapping the campsite. Worth the detour if you're in the area and need proper woodland without the crowds.
