Brompton Roman fort

Ancient earthworks rise from farmland just outside Montgomery, marking where Roman soldiers once stood guard on the Welsh borders. The fort's outline remains clear enough to trace - you can walk the perimeter and make out the defensive banks and ditches that protected this garrison nearly two thousand years ago.

History enthusiasts will appreciate the site's strategic position overlooking the Camlad Valley, though there's little left standing above ground. The interpretation is minimal, so bring your imagination or do some homework beforehand to get the most from your visit.
